Car sales Feb’ 2025: India’s automobile industry recorded a mix of growth and decline in February 2025, with some manufacturers reporting higher sales while others faced a dip. Maruti Suzuki Retains Market Leadership

Maruti Suzuki continued its dominance in the Indian auto market, reporting 1,99,400 units sold in February 2025. This marked a slight increase from 1,97,471 units in the same month last year. Domestic passenger vehicle sales saw a notable rise, reaching 1,74,379 units, compared to 1,68,544 units in February 2024.

Tata Motors Sees Decline in Sales

Tata Motors experienced a 9% drop in total passenger vehicle sales, including electric models. The company sold 46,811 units, down from 51,321 units in February 2024. The decline comes despite the growing demand for electric vehicles, which remains a key focus for the brand.

Hyundai Reports Slight Drop in Domestic Sales

Hyundai Motor India recorded a 3% year-on-year decline, with total dispatches falling to 58,727 units, compared to 60,501 units last year. Domestic sales fell by 5%, dropping from 50,201 units to 47,727 units. However, exports increased slightly, rising to 11,000 units from 10,300 units a year ago.

Mahindra & Mahindra Leads SUV Segment Growth

Mahindra & Mahindra emerged as a strong performer, particularly in the SUV segment. The company reported 50,420 domestic sales, marking a 19% increase from 42,401 units in February 2024. Additionally, export numbers nearly doubled, rising to 3,061 units from 1,539 units last year.

Toyota Continues Strong Performance

Toyota Kirloskar Motor maintained its upward trajectory, posting a 13% year-on-year sales increase. The company sold 28,414 units in February, up from 25,220 units last year. Toyota highlighted that SUVs and MPVs contributed 68% of total sales, reinforcing their dominance in these segments.

Kia India Records Impressive Growth

Kia India posted 23.8% growth in total sales, reaching 25,026 units, compared to 20,200 units last year. The newly launched compact SUV Syros played a key role in this surge, registering 5,425 units in sales and crossing 20,000 bookings. Other popular models included the Sonet (7,598 units), Seltos (6,446 units), and Carens (5,318 units).

MG Motor Faces Production Challenges

JSW MG Motor India reported a drop in sales, with 4,002 units sold, down from 4,595 units in February 2024. The company attributed the decline to temporary production reductions at its Halol facility, which is undergoing modifications for upcoming models. Electric vehicles (EVs) accounted for 78% of MG’s total sales, with the Windsor model surpassing 15,000 units in production within India’s passenger EV segment.
