NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, have made an exciting addition to their coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season. Former Indian all-rounder Sridharan Sriram has been appointed as the assistant bowling coach for the team.
A Wealth of Experience
Sriram, known for his left-arm spin bowling, brings significant coaching experience to CSK. He has previously worked as an assistant coach with the Australian national team from 2016 to 2022. Additionally, he served as Bangladesh’s T20 consultant for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, as well as their technical consultant ahead of the ODI World Cup.
His coaching resume also includes stints with IPL teams like Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Lucknow Super Giants, giving him valuable insight into the dynamics of the tournament. Sriram’s expertise in spin bowling will be particularly beneficial to CSK, who already have a strong spin bowling lineup.
Supporting CSK’s Spin Strength
The CSK squad boasts an impressive group of spinners, including R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Gopal, Noor Ahmad, Deepak Hooda, and Rachin Ravindra. Sriram’s arrival comes at the perfect time to help guide and nurture this talented group of players, enhancing their skills and performances in the IPL.
Sriram fills the coaching gap left by Dwayne Bravo, who recently joined Kolkata Knight Riders as their mentor.
CSK’s Road to Redemption
After failing to make the playoffs in the 2024 season, finishing just behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru on net run rate, CSK will be looking to bounce back with a strong performance in the upcoming IPL. Their opening match is scheduled against Mumbai Indians on March 23 at their home ground, and they will be eager to kick off the season with a win.
The IPL 2025 will officially begin on March 22, with the opening match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
