Ubisoft’s highly anticipated action-RPG, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has reportedly suffered a leak ahead of its scheduled release. While the game was originally slated for launch in November 2024, it has been delayed twice, with the latest release date set for March 20, 2025. Despite the delays, players have managed to get their hands on early physical copies of the game, and footage has surfaced online.
Early Copies Sold Ahead of Launch
A Reddit post on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours revealed that some PS5 players have already gotten physical copies of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with the game allegedly being fully playable. This unexpected early release has sparked a flood of leaks, with users sharing gameplay footage and images of the game online.
One post mentions that the game includes Animus Anomalies, a mission type fans will recognize from previous Assassin’s Creed titles. However, the copy in question is reportedly an older build of the game, lacking the improvements introduced during the delayed development period.
Gameplay Footage Surfaces Online
Separately, a user on X (formerly Twitter) claimed to have bought a copy of the game through Facebook Marketplace. The user shared images of the game’s installation screen and even posted videos of the gameplay, though those posts have since been removed. Despite this, the leaked content continues to circulate across social media platforms, including X and other websites.
One image suggests that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will require 85GB of storage space on the PS5. Additionally, some users have begun streaming the game on Twitch, though those streams have also been taken down.
Ubisoft Yet to Comment on the Leaks
As of now, Ubisoft has not made any official statements regarding the leaks or the early sales of the game. However, the company previously pushed back the release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows to March 2025 to give the development team more time to polish the title.
Pre-Order Numbers and Future Expectations
Earlier this month, Ubisoft shared positive news about the game’s pre-order numbers. In its third-quarter 2024-2025 earnings call, the company revealed that pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows were performing well, matching the numbers seen for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey—the second most successful title in the franchise.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the full release next month, and despite the leaks, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is expected to be a major title for Ubisoft in 2025.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on March 20, 2025. With all the leaks surrounding the game, it will be interesting to see how Ubisoft handles the situation as the launch date draws near.
