Tesla has reportedly secured a prime location in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) for its first showroom in India. This marks a major step forward for Elon Musk’s electric vehicle (EV) company, which has long faced challenges entering the Indian market due to regulations, high import taxes, and local manufacturing requirements.

With plans now taking shape, Tesla is gearing up to compete with global players like BYD and MG, as well as homegrown brands like Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Tesla’s First Showroom: Location & Leasing Details

According to a Times of India report, Tesla has leased a 4,000-square-foot space on the ground floor of a commercial tower in BKC. The company is said to be paying ₹900 per square foot, translating to an estimated ₹35 lakh per month in rent. The lease agreement reportedly spans five years.

Following the launch of its Mumbai showroom, Tesla is expected to establish its second outlet in Delhi’s Aerocity complex. The company is reportedly planning to kick off sales in the third quarter of 2025, with a focus on Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru.

Tesla’s EV Rollout Strategy in India

Tesla’s entry into India comes after discussions between US President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Reports indicate that the first batch of Tesla EVs will arrive at Mumbai Port in the coming months.

Initially, Tesla will import its vehicles from its Berlin Gigafactory, with potential plans to localize production in India in the future. The company is reportedly working on offering an affordable EV priced under $25,000 (roughly ₹22 lakh), making it more accessible to Indian consumers.

Currently, Tesla’s most affordable model is the Model 3, which starts at $40,000 (roughly ₹35 lakh). If Tesla manages to bring its pricing closer to the ₹22 lakh mark, it could significantly shake up India’s growing EV market.
